Marta Kloučková
& David Dorůžka
The collaboration between vocalist Marta Kloučková and guitarist David Dorůžka is built on subtlety. Rather than relying on large arrangements or heavy production, the duo focuses on the bare essentials: a human voice and a guitar, interacting in real time. The result is music that feels conversational—sometimes playful, sometimes introspective, always attentive to nuance.
Kloučková’s voice carries a distinctive warmth and clarity. Her phrasing moves comfortably between jazz tradition and contemporary songwriting, often emphasizing storytelling and emotional precision. In a duo setting, her singing becomes even more transparent; every breath, dynamic shift, and rhythmic choice becomes part of the performance.
Opposite her, Dorůžka provides a guitar language that is both delicate and harmonically rich. Known as one of the leading guitarists of the Czech jazz scene, he combines modern jazz vocabulary with melodic sensitivity. Instead of dominating the texture, his playing often creates space—supporting the vocal line with subtle chords, counter-melodies, and occasional improvised passages that expand the emotional landscape.
Together, they form a musical dialogue. The guitar does not simply accompany the voice; it answers it, questions it, and sometimes leads it into unexpected directions. This balance gives the duo’s performances an intimate atmosphere that feels almost like listening in on a private musical conversation.
Within the broader context of Czech jazz, their partnership highlights a growing interest in small, expressive formats where improvisation, poetry, and personal interpretation take precedence over spectacle. The music of Kloučková and Dorůžka demonstrates how much depth can emerge from minimal means when two musicians share a strong sense of listening and mutual trust.
Their long-awaited record, album How Little We Dream, will be released April 10th on Bivak records.
